As of 2026, every Labuan Bajo hotel sits within one of four practical transfer zones from Komodo Airport (LBJ): the town and marina zone (5–10 minutes), the hillside zone above the harbour (10–15 minutes), the Waecicu Beach zone (15–20 minutes), and the north beach zone beyond Waecicu (20–30 minutes). Your zone determines your drive time, the best vehicle for the route, and your fixed fare — all confirmed before you land. This page is the hub for our zone system: it maps each major resort to its zone and links to the dedicated transfer page for each of the five flagship hotels.
Labuan Bajo is compact, but the coastal road north of town narrows and climbs in places, so a “10-minute town run” and a “25-minute north beach run” are genuinely different services. Booking by zone means no surprises on arrival day.
What Are the Hotel Zones from Komodo Airport (LBJ)?
Komodo Airport sits roughly 2–3 km southeast of the town centre, which is why town hotels are so quick to reach. The table below is the zone map we use to assign vehicles and quote fares, as of 2026:
| Zone | Drive Time | Flagship Hotels | Best Vehicle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Town & Marina (incl. Pede Beach) | 5–10 min | Meruorah Komodo, Sudamala Resort | Toyota Innova or similar |
| Hillside | 10–15 min | Boutique hotels above the harbour | Innova / SUV (steep driveways) |
| Waecicu Beach | 15–20 min | AYANA Komodo, Plataran | Innova Reborn or Toyota Alphard |
| North Beach | 20–30 min | Ta’aktana, a Luxury Collection Resort | Alphard or Hiace van for groups |
Town & Marina Zone: 5–10 Minutes
This is the fastest zone. It covers the town centre, the marina waterfront, and the Pede Beach strip that sits between the airport and town. Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo, the marina landmark, is typically a 5–10 minute drive from the arrivals kerb. Sudamala Resort on Pede Beach is often the single closest resort to the airport — some transfers take under 10 minutes door to door. A standard private car such as a Toyota Innova is all you need here; the roads are paved and flat. This zone is ideal if you land late at night and want to be checked in quickly, or if you have an early harbour departure the next morning.
Hillside Zone: 10–15 Minutes
The hills directly above the harbour hold a cluster of boutique hotels and guesthouses with sunset views over the bay. Distances are short, but the access roads are steep and some driveways are tight, so we assign an Innova or SUV rather than a low-clearance sedan. Budget 10–15 minutes from the airport in normal traffic. If you are staying hillside and also planning day trips, pairing your arrival transfer with a full-day charter car with driver is the most efficient way to cover viewpoints, caves, and town in one booking.
Waecicu Beach Zone: 15–20 Minutes
Waecicu, on the coast north of town, is Labuan Bajo’s five-star beach zone. AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach and Plataran Komodo Beach Resort both sit here, roughly 8–10 km from the airport, which translates to a 15–20 minute drive along the coastal road. Because guests in this zone are usually travelling with resort-level luggage — and often as couples celebrating something — the most requested vehicles are the Innova Reborn and the Toyota Alphard premium transfer, which offers captain seats and generous cold-luggage space.
North Beach Zone: 20–30 Minutes
Beyond Waecicu, the road continues to the newest luxury addresses on the northern coastline, led by Ta’aktana, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. Allow 20–30 minutes from the airport. This is the zone where a properly arranged transfer matters most: it is the longest run, ride-hailing coverage is unreliable this far out, and returning taxis are scarce. We recommend an Alphard for couples or a Hiace van for families and groups, and we always schedule a firm pickup time for your departure day so you are never waiting on an empty coastal road.
Which Vehicle Should You Choose for Your Zone?
- Solo travellers and couples, town or hillside: standard private car (Innova class) — quick, comfortable, best value.
- Couples heading to Waecicu or north beach: Innova Reborn or Alphard for the longer coastal run.
- Families and groups of 5–14: a Hiace van or group transfer keeps everyone and their dive bags in one vehicle, whatever the zone.
- Child seats and night arrivals: available on request in every zone — tell us when you book.
How Do You Book a Zone-Based Transfer?
The process takes two minutes on WhatsApp:
- Send your details: flight number, arrival date, hotel name, and number of passengers to WhatsApp 6281138105742.
- We confirm your zone and fare: you receive the drive time, recommended vehicle, and a fixed price in writing before you commit.
- Your driver tracks your flight: delays and night arrivals are covered automatically — the fare does not change.
- Meet at arrivals: your driver waits with a name board just outside the terminal exit.
Indicative Fares by Hotel Zone (2026)
As a guide, private-car fares as of 2026 start from around IDR 150,000–250,000 for the town and marina zone, IDR 200,000–300,000 for hillside hotels, IDR 250,000–350,000 for Waecicu, and IDR 300,000–450,000 for the north beach zone. Alphard and group van rates are quoted per request. These figures are indicative only — vehicle type, arrival time, and luggage volume affect the final price, and every quote follows our fixed-fare, no-negotiation policy: the price confirmed on WhatsApp is the price you pay, in any zone, at any hour. Frequently Asked Questions
Which hotel zone is closest to Komodo Airport?
The town and marina zone, including Pede Beach. Sudamala Resort and the marina hotels around Meruorah are typically 5–10 minutes from the terminal, making them the best choice for late-night arrivals and early boat departures.
Do Waecicu and north beach hotels cost more to reach?
Yes, moderately — the drive is two to three times longer than a town run, so zone fares scale with distance. The difference is confirmed upfront in your fixed quote, and there is never a surcharge added on the day.
Can I book one transfer for a split stay in two zones?
Yes. Many guests spend two nights in town before a liveaboard, then finish at AYANA or Ta’aktana. Tell us both hotels when you book and we will quote the airport transfer plus the inter-hotel leg as one arrangement with one driver.
Is a night arrival to a far zone a problem?
No. The coastal road to Waecicu and the north beach zone is drivable at night, our drivers monitor every flight, and night arrivals are part of normal service — just include your flight number so pickup timing adjusts automatically.
